Using Squidoo to Get People to Your Website

Sunday, June 15th, 2008

How much time do you spend building incoming links to your website in an effort to get people to visit?  Although this is an extremely effective way to build up your website visitors, at times it helps to step away from your website for a little bit and work in another area. Although the main focus will still be your own website, using another website can be a very effective way to build traffic and to keep it coming on a regular basis.  The real key is finding someplace to build a website that already has everything in place that you will need in order to be successful in the shortest time possible.  One of the best places that this can happen is at Squidoo.com.

Squidoo is one of the most popular Web 2.0 websites that is in existence today.  Although there are some that are more popular, such as youtube or Myspace, Squidoo offers something that these other websites do not.  Let’s take a look at how to build a Squidoo lens and what you can do to make it successful, both on its own and for whatever website you are promoting.

The first thing that you’re going to need to do is to sign up for your own little corner on the Squidoo property.  Although it will be a single page website that you are building, they are called lenses whenever they exist on Squidoo.  Building the lens is a relatively easy thing to do because their system will walk you through every step of the process.  You just need to make sure that you choose the name of your lens wisely whenever you first get started.  This is because you’re unable to change it once you build the lens and submit it.  Use a keyword rich name and you will be surprised at how well it will rank in the search engines.

You need to make sure that you build your Squidoo lens in such a way as it will appear as if it is giving something back to the Squidoo community.  Of course, if you build it in this way then it will in fact give something of benefit.  There are different parts of your lens that you’re going to need to choose and you can put a variety of different information in these parts.  Make sure that you choose several because if you choose too few, your lens may be locked in all your hard work will go down the drain.

The real beauty of building a Squidoo lens is the fact that Squidoo already has favor in the eyes of Google.  If you build a lens around a long tail keyword, it will quickly rise to the top of the search engine result pages.  It is a way of piggybacking on the success of another website and is a very effective way in getting traffic over to your main website that will continue to come in for a very long time.

To your success!

Exchanging Links for Additional Traffic

Monday, June 9th, 2008

Building website traffic through the use of links is one of the oldest ways of marketing your website.  It used to be relatively easy to get these links to come in your website and people would gladly exchange links for a variety of different reasons.  First, they loved to get the direct traffic they came from links because the people were already interested in what they were talking about.  Secondly, it gave them a healthy boost to the search engine rankings and it is still possible to do so today.  The problem is, many of the search engines are now starting to ignore reciprocal links to a certain extent.  Search engine rankings that were once built on these exchanged links now seem to be going the way of the dinosaur.  Does that mean that exchanging links is dead?

Many people still exchange links on a regular basis and they do so with a lot of success.  Although the old reciprocal link directories may not work quite as well as they used to, if you’re able to exchange links in the proper way you can still get a lot of traffic to your website in a short period of time.  The real key comes in finding link partners and not simply looking for a massive amount of links.  These link partners are out there and they are willing to exchange links with you if you sweeten the pot to a certain extent.  Here is one way that you can do that.

If you have a popular website or blog that gets a lot of repeat traffic, you can display how many links you are sending to them by simply adding a link to their website on your blog.  Put in a prominent location and let it sit there for a week or two, getting people to click over to it on a regular basis.  Use a script to keep track of how many people are clicking on that link and then e-mail them that information after a week or two has expired.  If they are getting 10 or 20 clicks a day or more from you, they would be more willing to add a link to your website in return.  The hardest part about doing this is waiting for the initial period to end but getting a decent link from another website will make it all worth the effort.

Of course, you don’t need to stick with exchanging links in order to get some inbound traffic.  You can get incoming links in a variety of different ways such as article writing, leaving comments on other blogs and forum marketing.  As long as you do these things properly, you would be surprised with the amount of traffic that will come your way.  Reciprocal links still have their place and they will probably always work to a certain extent.  Make sure that you make them a part of your marketing effort and you will be happy that you’ve done so.

Getting Listed in Google Fast

Tuesday, May 13th, 2008

Anybody that has been Internet marketing for any time realizes that being listed in Google is a way to get some serious traffic to your website. As a matter of fact, it is estimated that Google may drive up to 50% of the traffic that searches on the Internet. The other 50% is spread among some of the other search engines, such as Yahoo or MSN. While it may help your business to be listed in the smaller search engines, having a good listing in Google can give you a fantastic boost. The problem can be getting listed in Google quickly, especially if your website is brand-new. If you seem to be sputtering as far as your ranking is concerned, here are some ways to get listed in Google fast and move up through the rankings with ease.

Don’t let anybody tell you any different, getting listed in Google is very easy to do. The only thing that you really need is a website and a few incoming links. As long as your website is navigable by the search engine, the incoming links will point the search engine bot to it. You can get these links from any number of places but the easiest ways to do it are through article marketing or submitting RSS feeds. Here is a little bit about each of those methods.

Article marketing is simply writing articles that have to do a little bit with what your website is about. You would post these on various article websites throughout the Internet and leave a link that points back to your website in the bio box. There really isn’t much more to it than that. Some of these article sites that add content on a regular basis are spidered on a regular basis as well. Whenever the search engine spiders see a new outgoing link, they will follow it and began taking in your site.

If you want an extremely easy way to get your website listed quickly, try submitting an RSS feed. You can do this by building a site map that is in the RSS format. There are plenty of free websites which will spider your pages and build this site map for you. All you need to do after that is to upload it to your server and then paying it through one of the free painting services. You will be pleasantly surprised at how quickly the search engine spiders begin to come take a look.

Of course, it may take a little while before your pages are actually indexed in Google but they will be looked at very quickly by using these methods. I’ve had pages that were listed within a day and other pages which took a week or more before they finally showed up. As long as you have a little bit of patience, however, you will see results from your efforts. Before long, your site will be listed and moving up through the rankings on its way to the top.

Search Engine Optimization for Quick Results

Sunday, May 11th, 2008

A Web business will live or die according to the number of people who visit their sites.  Just as a store cannot stay in business if it does not have clients coming through its doors, someone that is involved in Internet marketing is also similarly out of luck if they fall into the same situation.  That is why it is important to make sure that you have plenty of traffic coming to your website on regular basis.  One of the best ways to do this which also happens to be free is through search engine optimization.

Many people consider search engine optimization or SEO to be something that is very difficult to do.  To be sure, it is not something that somebody can just pick up overnight but there are some basic things that can be done that make a difference in your rankings in the search engine.  As long as you keep taking care of the basics, you can simply expound on them in order to help your rankings with the search engines.  The most important thing is that you do not try to cut any corners or to make it too difficult for you to do.  Make a schedule and stick to it and you will be happy with the results.

At the very core of any SEO efforts are incoming links.  Yes, making sure that your pages themselves are optimized for particular keywords is also important but you can rank for keywords that are not even on your webpage if you position your incoming links properly.  Acquiring these links, however, can be something that is relatively difficult to do.  That is, of course, unless you know a few shortcuts that you can take.

You can spend all the time that you want trying to get incoming links from authority websites in your particular niche.  Unfortunately, they simply do not come easy and it may actually come at a very high price.  You can get links to your website that will matter a lot as far as your search engine positioning is concerned through other means.  Submitting unique articles to the article directories and including a link back to your website is one of these ways.  You can also offer to write a unique article for one of the authority sites in exchange for a link back to your own.

One easy way to get incoming links to your website that will propel you toward the top of the search engine results is to use Web 2.0 websites.  This includes everything from social bookmarking to building pages and blogs on websites such as blogger or Squidoo.  Build as many of these as you can and interlink them in such a way that it creates a natural looking linking pattern and then link back to your website from some of the more popular pages.  You would be surprised at how quickly this will increase your search engine rankings.
